Miao Xiaochun has been relentlessly expanding the boundaries of digital technology into a new way of art expression: the human brain and the computer thinking together; hand and mouse working together. Miao’s paintings are the result of a combination between digital and manual work. He uses a cutting plotter to carve the vector file created using 3D software, then transports it onto canvas to assist manual painting.
Miao’s paintings are called as ‘Algorithmic Painting’, which are expanded from the three-dimensional virtual spaces into the two-dimensional manual paintings. By taking static or kinetic images with virtual cameras that can be only found in 3D software, and by editing and treating those images continuously, a new grammar of his artistic language is gradually and finally formed.
