China’s largest contemporary art space opens

Minsheng Contemporary Art Museum

Studio Pei Zhu has completed the Minsheng Contemporary Art Museum in Beijing, inside what used to be an electronics factory during the 1980s.

The museum holds a series of diverse exhibition spaces, making use of the existing structure, and incorporating its rough industrial textures and characteristics.

The gallery ‘typologies’ include spaces of different sizes, classified as big box, middle box, small box, classic space, courtyard exhibition space, and black box (multi-function performance, convention, exhibition spaces), which all organically lead off from a grand, double-height foyer.
